The slogan “A long weekend in Yorkshire isn’t long enough” is launching the historic region’s biggest-ever promotion to boost the number of overseas visitors.

They already contribute £6.3 billion to the local economy, and development agency Yorkshire Forward is investing £30 million to boost that amount by another £300 million.

With visitors continuing to benefit from the pound's weakness, overseas marketing campaigns will be central to promoting the region in the current economic climate.

European countries such as Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Netherlands will be targeted by Welcome to Yorkshire, as well as more distant countries such as Canada and China.

Says Yorkshire Forward Chief Executive Tom Riordan: “Our region is a country in a county, with its brilliantly vibrant cities, breathtaking national parks and rejuvenated seaside towns, making it one of the best visitor regions.”
